Larry and Jan Long

Larry was elected Attorney General in November 2002 and re-elected in November 2006. Prior to serving as Attorney General, Larry served as Chief Deputy Attorney General under Mark Barnett. Jan has worked as a legal secretary at various law offices in Pierre. Larry and Jan have two grown children and one granddaughter.

Prior to living and working in Pierre, Larry and Jan met at the University of South Dakota. They were married in 1972. They then moved to El Paso, Texas where Larry briefly served in the U.S. Army. In December of 1972, Larry and Jan moved to Martin, South Dakota, where Larry became the Bennett County State’s Attorney and Jan taught school. Jan later worked in the State’s Attorney office as a legal secretary. She also served as the Mayor of Martin for nearly two terms.

CIVIC CASA is important to Larry and Jan because according to Larry, “Jan and I have worked in the South Dakota legal system almost daily for over 30 years. We have seen hundreds of children who are in the system because the responsible adults are incapable or unwilling to provide a nurturing environment. CIVIC CASA volunteers are the voices for the children in the court room. We need to support CIVIC CASA so that someone will speak for these children.”

Corrie Ann has been the Indian Education Coordinator for the Pierre School District since February 2007. She graduated from Black Hills State University in with a double major in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and American Indian Studies. Corrie Ann is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and has family ties in Allen, SD as well as Rhode Island. Roger and Corrie Ann married in 2006 at which time she joined Roger in Pierre where they are currently raising their five children whose ages are 13, 11, 10, 9 and 1.

According to Roger and Corrie Ann, "CIVIC CASA is important to us because life experiences have given us a passion for disadvantaged kids. Often times it is hard to know what to do for kids that are in difficult situations. Supporting CIVIC CASA gives us one way to make a positive contribution to the well being of these children. Everyone can impact the lives of the abused and neglected children by supporting CIVIC CASA, who gives them the voice that they deserve to have in court."
